Water Symposium at Universitas Udayana

Udayana University in cooperation with Wageningen University, Netherlands, organized a Water Symposium at UNUD Sudirman Campus, Denpasar (19/08/2025). The event was opened by the Deputy Governor of Bali, with a welcome welcome from the Rector of Udayana University, who emphasized the importance of cross-institutional partnership in addressing global challenges of water management.

This activity was attended by students of the Faculty of Engineering, representatives of the Organization of Regional Devices (OPD) both central and regional, as well as practitioners and academics in the field of environment. One of the main speakers is the Head of the Environmental Control Center (Pusdal LH) of Bali and Nusa Tenggara, who brought a material titled “Strengthening Partnerships for Water Resources Protection and Management”.

In his presentation, he stressed that management of water resources cannot be done sectorally or partially, but rather requires synergy between government, academia, private sector and society. Collaborative strategies are an important cornerstone in preserving water quality, quantity, and sustainability, especially in the face of climate change challenges, increasing domestic needs, and pressures from industrial and tourism activities.

Further, Chief Pusdal LH Bali Nusra emphasized the importance of improving the Water Quality Index (IKA) strategy as one of the key indicators in sustainable development. These efforts not only include pollution control and conservation of water resources, but also focus on community engagement in caring for water ecosystems. These IKA improvement efforts will be directly reflected in the Environmental Response Index (IRLH), which illustrates a region’s capacity in responding to environmental challenges.

Thus, strengthening data-based policy, academic research, environmentally friendly technology, and community participation become the key foundations in achieving effective water resource protection.
